A tourbillon makes a moving regulating assembly part of the visual experience. Understanding its purpose does not require assuming that greater complexity guarantees greater daily accuracy.
During a calendar change, parts of some mechanisms are engaged. Unsuitable correction can increase mechanical load. Understand the movement's transition rather than memorizing one supposedly universal forbidden period.
A complicated calendar handles some month-length and leap-year rules. It does not eliminate every adjustment. Identify its real functions rather than counting windows or subdials.
A moonphase display represents a position in the lunar cycle, combining information with visual appeal. It is neither a weather forecast nor automatically the same as a day-night indicator.
A graduated rotating bezel can help track elapsed time. Its appearance alone does not establish suitability for diving: construction, visibility, testing and current condition also matter.
Many chronographs reserve the long central seconds hand for elapsed-time measurement and put running seconds on a subdial. A stationary central hand is therefore not necessarily a fault.
GMT watches can indicate more than one time zone, but their setting logic varies. Remote communication and frequent travel make different demands. Determine which hand adjusts independently rather than relying on a nickname.
