How the escapement and hairspring keep a mechanical watch running
A mainspring stores energy, but the wheel train must not release it all at once. The oscillator and escapement work together to control the rhythm and sustain motion.

A movement's jewel count usually refers to synthetic bearing or working jewels, not decorative diamonds. It provides structural information but cannot independently grade accuracy or quality.
Hacking usually stops the seconds indication or relevant regulating mechanism in the time-setting position, making synchronization easier. It is a convenience feature, not an independent measure of grade or accuracy.
Beat rate describes oscillator frequency. It helps explain the appearance of seconds-hand motion and some design decisions, but it cannot grade an entire movement on its own.
Distinguish accumulated deviation from a daily rate and from an instrument's instantaneous reading. Power, temperature, position and measurement method can all influence a single observation.
Power reserve measures running time from a defined energy state to stopping. It helps with watch rotation, but winding level, complications and condition must be considered before comparing numbers.
Automatic winding adds an energy-input mechanism; it does not eliminate the need for energy or guarantee full reserve whenever you wear the watch. Movement design, current reserve and your activity all matter.
Mechanical and quartz are different ways to keep time. Someone seeking accurate, low-intervention everyday use may value different qualities from someone who enjoys a visible mechanism. Start with how you will wear the watch.
